About the Carol
James Montgomery (1771–1854) wrote “Angels From The Realms Of Glory” in 1816 for his Sheffield newspaper. In many hymnals it is paired with the French carol tune Iris, inviting angels, shepherds, sages, and all the faithful to come and adore Christ. The carol has become a favourite in Christmas services and Epiphany celebrations. Its ringing invitation gathers the whole Church in praise, reminding worshippers that Heaven and Earth join together in adoration of the newborn King.
