About the Carol
American clergyman John Henry Hopkins Jr. (1820–1891) wrote both words and music for “We Three Kings” in 1857. The tune Kings Of Orient carries solo verses for each gift and a unifying chorus. It has become a favourite processional for Epiphany, reflecting on the meaning of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The carol leads us to worship Christ as King, God, and sacrifice.
