About the Hymn

Edmond Budry (1854–1932) wrote the original French text “À toi la gloire,” later translated into English by Richard B. Hoyle. The triumphant tune MACCABAEUS comes from G. F. Handel’s *Judas Maccabaeus* (“See, the conquering hero comes”), perfectly matching the Easter theme.

Sung widely at Easter and confirmation services, the hymn proclaims Christ’s victory over death and fear. Its soaring refrain helps the Church answer the empty tomb with bold praise to the risen Lord.
