About the Hymn
Fanny J. Crosby (1820–1915) wrote “Blessed Assurance” in 1873, and her friend Phoebe Palmer Knapp (1839–1908) supplied the tune ASSURANCE. The pairing quickly became a staple of late-19th-century revival singing and remains the standard setting today. The hymn’s confident refrain — “This is my story, this is my song” — has encouraged generations to rest in Christ’s promise. Its words and tune express a calm certainty in God’s care and a joyful desire to praise Him in every season.
