About the Hymn
American poet John Greenleaf Whittier (1807–1892) adapted these stanzas from his longer poem “The Brewing of Soma.” In this edition the hymn is sung to C. Hubert H. Parry’s noble tune REPTON, whose flowing lines suit the text’s plea for stillness and trust.
