About the Hymn
John Ellerton (1826–1893) wrote this calm evening text in the 19th century. Its customary tune is ST CLEMENT by Clement C. Scholefield (1839–1904), whose gentle rise and fall mirrors the passing of the day and the ceaseless praise of the global Church.
