About the Hymn

Frances Ridley Havergal (1836–1879) wrote this text of wholehearted dedication in the 1870s. It is commonly sung to HENDON, a reverent tune by Henri A. César Malan (1827), later adapted by Lowell Mason, whose steady phrases suit the hymn’s simple vows.

Each couplet offers a different part of life to God — time, hands, voice, will, heart. Its clear petitions make it a favourite after sermons or at services of commitment, inviting believers to yield all to His service.
