About the Folk Song
This well-known Welsh melody is linked to the 18th-century harpist David Owen, known in Welsh as Dafydd y Garreg Wen (“David of the White Rock”). According to tradition, he composed it on his deathbed. The tune’s slow pace and noble shape have made it one of Wales’s most loved airs.
