About the Hymn
Based on St Francis of Assisi’s “Canticle of the Sun,” this English version was prepared by William H. Draper in the early 20th century. It is most often sung to the 17th-century tune LASST UNS ERFREUEN, first printed in Cologne (1623) and now familiar through its soaring “Alleluia” refrain. All Creatures Of Our God And King calls the whole creation to praise the Lord. Its joyful refrain and broad melody make it a favourite for services of thanksgiving, Eastertide, and general worship, lifting hearts to praise the Maker of Heaven and earth.
