About the Piece
“Non più andrai, farfallone amoroso” is the comic aria near the end of Act I of Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Figaro (1786), with a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. Sung by Figaro as Cherubino is sent off to the regiment, it’s written in a bold, march style with catchy dotted rhythms and strong orchestral accents. The tune became instantly popular and is even quoted later by Mozart in Don Giovanni. The music’s steady stride and memorable melody make it a favourite concert piece beyond the opera house. Its lively character paints a humorous picture of military discipline replacing youthful flirtations, giving performers a bright, confident theme that audiences recognise at once.
