About the Piece

Chopin wrote his Op. 9 Nocturnes around 1830–1832, publishing them in 1833 and helping to popularise the “nocturne” as a poetic piano genre. The E-flat major Nocturne (Op. 9 No. 2) is especially famous for its song-like melody and gentle accompaniment, a hallmark of Chopin’s elegant salon style and a favourite in films, lessons, and recitals.

Listeners are drawn to its calm, singing line and reflective mood, which suggest a quiet evening atmosphere. It rewards sensitive playing and subtle rubato, making it a beautiful choice for moments of stillness and for anyone who enjoys expressive, lyrical piano music.
