About the Hymn

Bishop Thomas Ken (1637–1711) wrote this four-line doxology for morning and evening devotion. It is commonly sung in canon to TALLIS’ CANON, a 16th-century tune by Thomas Tallis (c.1505–1585).

Used to conclude services and offerings, the doxology lifts a simple, timeless praise to the Triune God. Its brevity and beauty make it one of the most familiar acclamations in Christian worship.
