About the Piece
Robert Schumann (1810-1856) composed Soldiers' March as the second piece in his Album for the Young (Op. 68), published in 1848. The collection was written to introduce young pianists to expressive, enjoyable music, and this lively march soon became one of its best-known pieces. Its bold melody and steady marching rhythm have made Soldiers' March a favourite in piano teaching collections and recitals. A fine example of Schumann's ability to write music that is both accessible and full of character.
